JODDB spokesperson Eng. Moataz Al-Atain said in an interview with the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the bureau is developing integrated systems designed to meet the needs of the Jordan Armed Forces and security agencies while keeping pace with regional and international challenges.
He noted that JODDB’s products include 10 systems in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles and 18 products focused on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Al-Atain said the bureau is focusing on deploying modern technologies to develop advanced defense solutions, helping improve operational efficiency and strengthen the ability to respond to various threats.
Regarding artificial intelligence applications, Al-Atain said JODDB is preparing to launch “Digital Spider,” an application designed to collect data from open sources, including social media platforms, websites and news outlets, and analyze it to extract information that supports assessment and decision-making processes.
He added that the bureau is also developing two specialized applications to support military decision-making, “Aoun” and “Moeen.” The applications rely on artificial intelligence technologies, specialized databases and reference materials to provide multiple options for analyzing battles, assessing their developments, and supporting decisions related to military and logistical operations.
These applications are based on specialized military and defense references, including materials from international military colleges and defense institutions, allowing users to benefit from accumulated knowledge and expertise in operations management and military planning.
Speaking about some of the bureau’s most prominent new defense products, Al-Atain highlighted the development of the “Al-Barq” platform, an armored mobile platform equipped with specialized systems for jamming, camouflage and detecting drone-related threats. It can also carry drones for reconnaissance purposes.
He explained that JODDB is also developing an integrated command-and-control system capable of detecting and responding to aerial threats through a range of specialized solutions and systems, strengthening the capabilities of forces in the field.
Among the new products are low-cost attack drones manufactured using advanced technologies, including 3D printing. This allows large numbers of drones to be produced at lower cost while accelerating production and deployment.
Al-Atain stressed that the growing threat posed by drones and their ability to inflict damage on high-value targets is driving the development of defensive solutions suited to the nature of these threats. He said research and development efforts are continuing to produce more efficient systems tailored to operational requirements.
He also noted that JODDB has developed a drone-carrying platform capable of accommodating four types of drones. The platform provides multiple reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities while facilitating the transportation, deployment and use of drones in field missions, particularly in border areas and forward deployment locations.
He explained that integrating these platforms with different types of drones enhances the speed of threat detection and response while providing greater flexibility in carrying out operational missions.
Regarding the role of Jordanian universities in developing defense industries, Al-Atain said JODDB places great importance on scientific and applied research and works to connect research outputs with the actual needs of the defense industrial sector.
He said the bureau adopts students’ ideas through its innovation platform and annually presents its research needs to universities, giving researchers and academics the opportunity to propose innovative solutions that can be supported and developed into practical products.
JODDB also implements research projects in cooperation with the King Abdullah II Fund for Development to support university research projects. The bureau has cooperation agreements with Jordanian universities aimed at building an integrated ecosystem linking scientific research, development, manufacturing and investment in defense industries.
Al-Atain said such integration would strengthen Jordan’s position as an investment destination for defense industries and reinforce its role as a regional hub in the sector, while creating new opportunities for researchers, innovators and national companies.
Regarding the importance of the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference, SOFEX Jordan, Al-Atain said Jordan’s hosting of the event amid regional and international challenges reflects its position as a safe and stable country trusted by international partners.
He noted that the current edition of SOFEX has attracted more than 400 delegations from more than 75 countries, along with 350 exhibiting companies from 38 countries. New participating countries include Norway, Slovakia and Italy.
He added that the growing international participation reflects increasing confidence in the exhibition and creates opportunities to expand international partnerships and strengthen the presence of Jordanian defense industries in global markets.
Al-Atain stressed that the use of JODDB-developed products by the Jordan Armed Forces and security agencies is one of the key factors underpinning confidence in these products, given the professionalism, experience and strong international reputation of these institutions.
He said the local adoption and operational testing of the products in response to actual field requirements enhances their prospects for international marketing and supports the development of industrial and technological partnerships with international companies.
In this regard, Al-Atain said cooperation agreements have been signed with international companies, including Orange and the UAE-based EDGE Group, while additional agreements are being prepared for signing and will be announced during SOFEX events.
Regarding quality and certification standards, Al-Atain said JODDB’s Testing and Evaluation Center is a key pillar in strengthening the reliability of national defense products by subjecting them to inspections and tests in accordance with internationally recognized standards.
He explained that the center holds more than 450 testing accreditations issued by a British accreditation body, allowing it to conduct specialized tests on weapons, ammunition, vehicles, systems and military solutions.
He added that these accreditations strengthen international partners’ confidence in Jordanian products and demonstrate the bureau’s commitment to applying recognized technical and industrial standards in testing and evaluation processes.
Regarding JODDB’s plans amid regional and international challenges, Al-Atain said the bureau operates under a strategic plan based on the Royal vision of the importance of building a national defense industry sector. He noted that JODDB was established in 1999 based on an early recognition of the importance of developing Jordan’s defense industrial capabilities.
He stressed that the bureau’s primary objective is to support the Jordan Armed Forces and provide solutions that meet their operational needs by transforming field requirements into specialized products and systems capable of addressing various threats, including border and cyber threats.
He added that JODDB continues to update its plans and programs in line with technological developments and the nature of challenges facing the region and the world, with a focus on expanding investment in emerging and future technologies and integrating them into the defense systems it develops.
Al-Atain said the bureau will announce details of the agreements and their financial figures during the final two days of SOFEX, reflecting the progress of cooperation and partnerships it is developing in the defense industry sector.
