Amman – The visit by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to Saudi Arabia and his meeting with His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, carried a message of Jordanian solidarity with the Kingdom.

The visit reflected five key messages: affirming that Jordan’s security is inseparable from the security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states; reaffirming the deep historical ties between the two brotherly countries; continuing coordination and consultation; and seeking to broaden prospects for joint cooperation.

Political and media affairs experts said Crown Prince Hussein’s visit to Saudi Arabia underscored Jordan’s solidarity with the Kingdom and its support for the measures it is taking to confront various forms of targeting and attacks.

Saudi journalist Awda Al-Mahous said Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s reception of his brother, Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, reflected the depth of the historic and fraternal relations between the two countries and the strength of their longstanding ties. He said both sides were keen to strengthen cooperation and expand their partnership across various fields in a way that serves their shared interests and reflects the longstanding relationship between Riyadh and Amman.

He added that the meeting carried clear messages of unity and solidarity, particularly in light of Jordan’s condemnation of the terrorist attacks launched by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia and its firm declaration of support for the Kingdom.

The visit, he said, reflects the strength and stability of Saudi-Jordanian relations, which are rooted in historical ties, brotherhood and shared positions. The partnership between the two countries goes beyond traditional cooperation, constituting a strategic relationship based on trust, coordination and solidarity in confronting challenges.

Al-Mahous stressed that Jordanian-Saudi relations were not the product of a particular political phase or passing circumstances. Rather, they are deeply rooted historical ties founded on brotherhood and mutual respect, with roots extending back decades, making them a model of Arab relations based on shared interests and a common destiny.

He noted that relations between the two countries had passed through important historical milestones that established the foundations of brotherhood, cooperation and communication, helping build a strong relationship over many decades.

These ties, he said, have not been limited to agreements and diplomatic protocols. They have been reflected in mutual positions, continuous communication between the two leaderships and a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in political, economic, security and cultural fields, as well as coordinating positions on Arab and regional issues.

Over the decades, relations between the two countries have maintained their distinctive status, gaining further strength during the reign of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his brother, King Abdullah II of Jordan.

Cooperation and coordination also developed further, culminating in the establishment of the Saudi-Jordanian Coordination Council in 2016, reflecting the two countries’ shared desire to take their relations to broader horizons.

Al-Mahous said the two leaderships continued to build on this historical legacy through a shared vision of strengthening cooperation and opening new areas of partnership to serve the interests of both peoples and enhance regional security and stability.

He added that the relationship could not be discussed without recognising the close bonds between the Saudi and Jordanian peoples, including family connections, brotherhood, social and cultural ties, and fraternal sentiments that transcend geographical boundaries. Jordan, he said, holds a special place in the hearts of Saudis, just as Saudi Arabia enjoys a distinctive standing among Jordanians.

He said the visit demonstrated the continuation of communication between the two leaderships and their commitment to strengthening historic relations and expanding joint cooperation.

Saudi-Jordanian relations, he added, are too deep to be summed up by a single occasion or meeting. They represent a long history, mutual support, enduring brotherhood and a partnership looking towards the future. The relationship will remain an important pillar of joint Arab action and a model of brotherhood shaped by shared positions and strengthened over time.

Jordan and Saudi Arabia’s Regional Role

Mohammad Al-Qatatsheh, a professor of political thought at the University of Jordan, said the Crown Prince’s visit came in the context of reaffirming the principles outlined in the Royal Speech from the Throne, in which King Abdullah II clearly emphasised Jordan’s support for Arab causes, rooted in its Arab and Islamic identity.

He added that the King’s speech focused on the Arab world and Arab national security, stressing: “We remain steadfast in our position, committed to our Arab identity and to defending the causes of our nation.”

The Crown Prince’s visit to Saudi Arabia on the same day, he said, delivered a clear message reaffirming Jordan’s support for the Kingdom in the face of terrorist attacks by the Houthi group.

Al-Qatatsheh noted that the visit highlighted the strong relations between Jordan and Saudi Arabia and demonstrated that both countries occupy a pivotal position in the Arab regional order. Jordan’s leadership and people standing alongside Saudi Arabia, he said, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s consistent alignment with the Arab world and its regional depth.

He also pointed out that Jordan had been part of Operation Decisive Storm and the coalition formed when Saudi Arabia’s security and its border with Yemen were threatened by Houthi militias. Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the wider Arab world regard these threats as a security challenge to the region, he said.

The visit, he concluded, reaffirmed Jordan’s support for Saudi Arabia and provided an opportunity for further consultations among Arab leaders more broadly.
