Japan Urges China to Reverse Sudden Export Restrictions
Japan has called on China to reverse its decision to impose stricter export controls on dual-use goods, which may include rare earth metals.

China’s Ministry of Commerce announced in a statement that the authorities “have decided to strengthen export controls on dual-use goods to Japan,” noting that the new measures take effect immediately.اضافة اعلان

Tensions between the two Asian nations escalated after Japanese Prime Minister announced in November that Tokyo could take military action if China used force against Taiwan, which China considers part of its territory.

The Chinese statement did not specify which products are covered under the new restrictions. Beijing classifies various goods in sensitive sectors—such as biotechnology, space, and communications—as potentially dual-use and thus subject to export controls.

Hours after China’s announcement, Masaki Kanai, Secretary-General for Asian and Oceanian Affairs at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, lodged a protest and “demanded the withdrawal of these measures.”

The Japanese Foreign Ministry issued a statement noting that the protest was delivered to Xi Yong, Deputy Head of Mission at the Chinese Embassy.
