Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said during a regular press conference: “If Japan’s far-right forces misjudge the situation and act recklessly and irresponsibly, they will inevitably face resistance from the Japanese people and a firm response from the international community.”

Takaichi, the first woman to serve as Japan’s prime minister, achieved a landslide victory in Sunday’s elections, paving the way for the implementation of her pledges to introduce tax cuts—which have raised concerns in financial markets—and to increase military spending to confront China.
