China’s Foreign Ministry said Monday that U.S. threats to impose sanctions on Iran would not help resolve the problems.
“We are monitoring the U.S. threats to impose sanctions on Iran and will do what is necessary to protect our rights and interests,” the ministry said.

It added: “Threats to impose sanctions on Iran do not contribute to solving problems.”
The remarks come amid escalating Iranian rhetoric over its military capabilities and sovereignty over regional waterways, with Iranian officials reaffirming their commitment to developing the country’s defense and missile systems.
The United States and Iran remain at odds over the Strait of Hormuz and the conditions for ending the conflict. The future of their talks also remains uncertain following the expiration last Monday of a 60-day negotiating period established under a memorandum of understanding between the two sides.
