The call is part of Kim’s longstanding policy of strengthening North Korea’s military capabilities.
In a speech delivered at the conference of North Korean military unit commanders, held on October 22 and 23, the Korean Central News Agency described the gathering as the first comprehensive military meeting since the ruling Workers’ Party’s Ninth Congress in February.
Kim called on every military unit to be fully prepared to achieve what he described as the “goal of military strengthening in the new era.”
“Let us build the strongest army and accelerate the pace of the military revolution in our own way,” Kim said.
At the ruling Workers’ Party’s Ninth Congress in February, which sets the country’s course for the next five years, Kim called for strengthening conventional armed forces while reaffirming efforts to develop nuclear weapons and missiles.
