Eight people were killed in an explosion at a biotechnology factory in northern China, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Earlier reports indicated that seven people had died and one was missing in the blast at Jiapeng Biotechnology in Shanxi Province, about 400 kilometers west of Beijing. Later, Xinhua confirmed eight fatalities and noted that the company’s legal representative had been detained.اضافة اعلان

The agency reported that search operations continue at the site, with reporters observing dark yellow smoke rising from the factory.

The explosion occurred early Saturday morning, and authorities are investigating the cause.

Industrial accidents are relatively common in China, often due to non-compliance with safety standards. In late January, an explosion at a steel factory in neighboring Inner Mongolia killed at least nine people.
