The strategy, announced by Minister of Natural Resources Tim Hodgson, aims to establish two new nuclear reactors by 2035, with an additional five reactors either planned or under construction by 2040.

Although the strategy does not include any new funding, the government announced it will issue a policy by April 2027 outlining the conditions for federal support and the financing tools available for new nuclear projects.

Canada generates nearly 13% of its electricity supply from nuclear energy. It is also the world's second-largest uranium producer and holds the largest global reserves of high-grade uranium.
