The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) denied that the Israeli government owns or holds any legal rights over the property housing the agency’s complex in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem, contrary to claims circulating in some media reports.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philip Lazzarini stated in a post on X that the Israeli claims are invalid and illegal, emphasizing that the property ownership has not been transferred.
Lazzarini also noted that both the International Court of Justice and the United Nations General Assembly have affirmed the illegality of Israel’s presence in East Jerusalem and called for its termination as soon as possible.
He stressed that Israel has no sovereign rights over the occupied Palestinian territories, and that enforcing its laws there constitutes an unlawful action.
