Lapid: Ceasefire with Iran Is a Political Disaster
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid described the ceasefire with Iran as a political disaster.

He said, “We have never witnessed such a political disaster in our history, and Israel had no role in decisions related to its national security.”اضافة اعلان

He explained that the army carried out its duties and the public showed resilience, but Benjamin Netanyahu failed politically and strategically and did not achieve any of his objectives. He added that repairing the political and strategic damage caused would take years.

Lapid stated that Israel was not even present when decisions concerning the core of its national security were made, while at the same time praising the army “which carried out everything it was asked to do, and the unprecedented resilience of the Israeli public.”

He added that Netanyahu failed to achieve any of the goals he had set for himself, holding him responsible for the political and strategic damage, which he said would take many years to repair. He accused him of arrogance, negligence, and a lack of strategic planning.

Iran announced early Wednesday that the United States had “in principle” accepted a ten-point Iranian proposal to end the war, just hours before the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump for striking Iranian infrastructure.

The agreement came after more than five weeks of open war between Washington and Tel Aviv on one side and Iran on the other, which began on February 28, 2026, resulting in thousands of casualties, the destruction of vital infrastructure, and the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military commanders.

The Iranian proposal included ten key points, most notably: a commitment to non-aggression against Iran, continued control over the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions, payment of war reparations, and ending hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.

However, Netanyahu’s office denied that the temporary ceasefire includes Lebanon, despite statements from senior security officials and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Detailed negotiations are scheduled to begin on Friday in Islamabad under Pakistani mediation. – (Agencies)
