The Israeli Public Radio reported on Thursday morning that the Israeli Supreme Court approved on Wednesday evening a decision to evict the residents of the Bedouin village of Ras Jaraba in the Negev, located within the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948.

This followed the rejection of the villagers’ appeal against the Central Court in Beersheba, paving the way for the evacuation of around 500 Palestinian Bedouins from their lands east of Dimona city within three months.
The Supreme Court’s ruling effectively grants legal legitimacy to an eviction process that does not rely on an approved plan, which the villagers and human rights organizations consider a reinforcement of apartheid policies in the Negev.
Historically, the lands of Ras Jaraba belong to the Al-Hawashla tribe, and the village is home to families from the Al-Hawashla, Abu Salb, and Al-Nassasra clans. The village falls within the jurisdiction of Dimona in an area known as Al-Sha‘iriya or Markabat Al-Hawashla.
