An army statement reported the death of "Lidor Porat, 31, from Ashdod, a soldier in the 7106th Battalion, 769th Brigade, during clashes in southern Lebanon," without providing further details.
According to an AFP tally based on military data, the total number of Israeli military fatalities in the ongoing six-week war between Israel and Hezbollah has risen to 15.
This marks the second time the army has announced the death of a soldier in southern Lebanon since the start of the ten-day truce announced by the United States on Friday, as part of broader efforts to permanently end the war in the Middle East.
The latest round of fighting in Lebanon began on March 2, when the Tehran-backed Hezbollah launched missile attacks on Israel in response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, during the first wave of joint Israeli-American strikes on Iran.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Ministry of Health stated that the non-final cumulative toll of the war from March 2 until midnight on April 16 reached 2,294 dead and 7,544 wounded. The ministry clarified that among the deceased were 100 paramedics and 177 children.
Israel responded with strikes it claimed targeted Hezbollah in Beirut and southern regions of the country, where it also launched a ground operation.
The ceasefire took effect at midnight between Thursday and Friday and is scheduled to last for 10 days, according to the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump.
