The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that Israeli occupation forces “advanced on Wednesday evening into the village of Saida al-Golan, the Abu Madhra’a farm, and the villages of Ruihina in the southern countryside of Quneitra.”

According to the agency, an Israeli force moved from the direction of Tal Abu Ghithar toward the road linking Saida al-Golan village and the Abu Madhra’a farm in southern Quneitra countryside.

SANA added that the force set up a temporary checkpoint on the road, stopped passersby, and later withdrew.

The agency noted that another Israeli force “advanced into the town of Ruihina in the southern Quneitra countryside, where it conducted searches of several homes and arrested a civilian, taking him to an unknown location.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli forces also advanced into the Quneitra countryside in southern Syria and established three checkpoints to inspect passersby.

On Tuesday, SANA said that “Israeli occupation forces fired three shells toward the villages of Abidin and Maariya in the western countryside of Daraa (south), which landed in open areas outside residential تجمعات without causing injuries.”

These developments come despite the announcement on January 6 of the formation of a communication mechanism between Syria and Israel, under U.S. supervision, aimed at coordinating information exchange, reducing military escalation, engaging diplomatically, and exploring commercial opportunities.

The Israeli army continues to carry out near-daily bombardments of Syrian territory, along with ground incursions—particularly in the Quneitra and Daraa countrysides—arresting civilians, setting up checkpoints to inspect and interrogate passersby, and destroying crops.

Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of Syria’s Golan Heights. It took advantage of the ouster of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024, announced the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between the two sides, and occupied the Syrian buffer zone.

Syrians say that the continued Israeli violations undermine their ability to restore stability and hinder government efforts to attract investment aimed at improving the economic situation.
