Syria: Arrest of Mezzeh Airport Attack Perpetrators, Weapons Traced to Hezbollah
Syria announced on Sunday evening the arrest of a group behind the recent rocket attacks on Damascus’ Mezzeh Military Airport, with investigators determining that the weapons used belong to Hezbollah.اضافة اعلان

The Interior Ministry stated that security units captured all members of the group, which it said had carried out multiple attacks on the airport in recent months, following surveillance of suspected launch sites across several areas of the capital.

The ministry added that the weapons used in the attacks originated from Hezbollah, an ally of former President Bashar al-Assad. The group previously maintained a significant military presence across Syria to support government forces.

According to the ministry’s statement, “These operations came after continuous field monitoring and tracking of rocket launch areas in both Darayya and Kafr Sousa.”

The statement noted that security efforts led “to the precise identification of one of the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks, followed by the uncovering of the rest of the cell. Several security raids were then carried out, during which all involved individuals were arrested and a number of drones equipped for terrorist use were seized.”

Hezbollah denied the allegations, stating it has no activity in Syria or connections to any group there.

The ministry’s statement added that “preliminary investigations with the detainees indicate links to foreign entities,” without naming those entities.

It confirmed that “the source of the rockets and launch platforms used in the attacks, as well as the seized drones, belong to the Lebanese Hezbollah militia.”

Security sources say Hezbollah left behind weapon stockpiles, including drones, across parts of Syria following its withdrawal after the collapse of Assad’s rule.
