Israel: Next Round of Talks with Lebanon to be Held Next Week in Rome
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'er announced on Tuesday that the next round of talks with Lebanon will be held in Rome next week.

"Less than two weeks ago, Israel, Lebanon, and the United States reached a historic framework agreement. These talks are scheduled to continue next week in Rome, Italy," Sa'er said during a press conference with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, in Jerusalem.اضافة اعلان

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun had called on the United States to continue standing by his country following the conclusion of a Washington-sponsored framework agreement with Israel, aimed at reaching a "permanent peace," which is opposed by the Iran-backed Hezbollah.

The agreement, concluded on June 26 between Lebanon and Israel in the United States, stipulates that the Lebanese army will re-establish its authority in the south of the country, on the condition that Hezbollah is disarmed, starting with "pilot areas" from which the Israeli army will withdraw.

Lebanon entered the war on March 2, after Hezbollah fired missiles at Israel, which it stated was in response to the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the first US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.

Israel responded with a broad bombing campaign and a ground offensive, while intensifying its calls for the evacuation of large areas of southern Lebanon.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 17 between Tehran and Washington allowed a fragile ceasefire to come into effect as of June 21.
