At least 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in an attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation announced late Saturday night.
In a statement, the authority said the attack killed 12 people, including four Saudis, two Bangladeshi nationals, and one national each from Jordan, the United States, Egypt, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.
Another 309 people were injured and are receiving the necessary medical care at a number of hospitals, with some suffering critical injuries.
The attack also caused material damage, the extent of which is still being assessed.
Saudi authorities announced the suspension of operations at Riyadh Airport after it was subjected to an “attack” that resulted in injuries.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation said King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh “came under attack on Saturday afternoon,” amid what it described as continued attacks targeting civil aviation facilities in the Kingdom.
The incident follows a series of attacks targeting Saudi airports over the past week. The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation said three people were killed in two attacks targeting King Khalid International Airport on Thursday, following the deaths of three others in attacks on the airport and Abha International Airport on Tuesday and Wednesday.
