Three years of what the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor described as genocide carried out by Israel in the Gaza Strip have resulted in more than 10,000 Palestinian children losing at least one leg, while nine out of every 10 martyrs were civilians, the rights group said.
The Geneva-based organization made the statement in an infographic published Sunday documenting the toll of three years of what it described as genocide that began in October 2023.
It said that despite the announcement of a ceasefire agreement on October 10, 2025, Israel continues to “commit genocide in different forms in Gaza.”
Victims: Figures and Percentages
Regarding the toll over three years, the monitor said 13% of Gaza’s population of 2.4 million Palestinians have either been martyred, injured, gone missing or been detained.
Children account for 30% of the total victims and women for 20%, while nine out of every 10 martyrs are civilians, it said.
According to a statement issued by the Palestinian Health Ministry on Sunday, the Israeli genocide has resulted in 74,377 Palestinians being martyred and 175,398 others injured.
Regarding the injured, the monitor said thousands of people had undergone limb amputations or suffered permanent disabilities, adding that more than 10,000 children had lost at least one leg.
It said 40,000 people will live with permanent disabilities or require long-term rehabilitation, including 21,000 children.
Detention and Forced Disappearance
On the issue of detainees, the monitor said 12,000 people had been detained during the three years of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
It added that 2,700 people remain detained or are subject to forced disappearance.
The organization said it had interviewed 100 Palestinian detainees from Gaza who had previously been released and documented 42 forms of “torture and inhumane and degrading treatment” allegedly inflicted on them in Israeli prisons and detention centers.
Among these, it cited rape, spitting and urinating on detainees, strip searches, sexual assaults, electric shocks and intentional killing under torture.
Other Forms of Suffering
Addressing the suffering of Palestinians as a result of the war, the monitor said all residents of the Gaza Strip had experienced psychological trauma, much of which would leave long-term effects.
It said everyone faces high levels of “acute food insecurity,” amid government reports that Israel continues to blockade the Strip and deprive its population of food despite the ceasefire agreement.
The monitor noted that the daily per capita share of water had fallen by 98% as a result of the widespread destruction of water infrastructure.
On the environmental front, it said Israel had destroyed 3 million trees, 85,000 dunums of orchards and 8,700 agricultural wells.
The third anniversary of the war coincides with the first anniversary of the ceasefire declaration, during which Israel committed 5,474 violations, continued the blockade and starvation measures, and detained 203 Palestinians, according to the government media office on Sunday.
In addition to the casualties, Israel’s military campaign has left extensive destruction affecting 90% of civilian infrastructure, while an international report estimated the cost of recovery and reconstruction at approximately $71.4 billion.
