An Iranian official told Reuters on Saturday that Tehran is preparing to retaliate following Israel's strikes on Iran earlier today, asserting that the response will be "crushing."
Israel characterized its Saturday operation as a "preemptive" strike, a move that reignites direct military confrontation in the Middle East and threatens to undermine diplomatic efforts to resolve the long-standing dispute over Tehran's nuclear program. Meanwhile, Iran's Fars News Agency reported hearing three explosions in central Tehran.
This escalation follows a 12-day aerial conflict between Israel and Iran last June. It comes after repeated warnings from both the United States and Israel that they would take military action if Iran continued its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated: "Israel has launched a preemptive attack on Iran to counter the imminent threats it faces."
Iranian state media confirmed that the sounds of several explosions were heard across the capital, Tehran, on Saturday morning.
