Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected U.S. claims that the war against Iran has cost $25 billion, stating that the real direct cost is four times higher.

In a post on the X (Twitter) platform on Friday, Araghchi said figures released by the U.S. Department of Defense “do not reflect reality,” accusing the department of misleading the public.

He added that what he described as Benjamin Netanyahu’s “gamble” has cost the United States $100 billion directly so far—four times the officially announced figure.

Earlier on Friday, CBS News quoted an informed source as saying that the cost of U.S. strikes on Iran had reached about $50 billion, despite Pentagon officials maintaining it had not exceeded $25 billion.

Araghchi further argued that the indirect costs borne by U.S. taxpayers are significantly higher, claiming that “each American household is carrying a monthly burden of around $500,” a figure he said is rising rapidly.

He also remarked that “Israel comes first, and the United States always follows,” in reference to U.S. President Donald Trump’s “America First” slogan.

The U.S. and Israel launched the war on Iran on February 28, which has resulted in more than 3,000 deaths. Washington and Tehran later announced a ceasefire on April 8 in hopes of reaching an agreement to end the conflict.

On April 11, Pakistan hosted a round of talks between the two sides that did not lead to an agreement, after which the ceasefire was extended at Islamabad’s request without a specified duration.
