The Syrian Presidency stated: “Our position on the events in southern Syria stems from a commitment to civil peace, not a logic of revenge.”
In a statement released late Friday, the presidency added that “the unfortunate events in the south are the result of armed groups outside the law attempting to impose a de facto reality.”
The statement called on “all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize reason,” affirming that efforts are being made “to stop the bloodshed and curb violations.”
It also emphasized that “Syria is a country for all its citizens of various affiliations and communities, including the Druze and Bedouins alike,” adding, “We do not respond to chaos with more chaos, but rather uphold the law through the law and respond to aggression with justice.”
The presidency further stressed that “attacks on peaceful families and violations of people’s dignity are condemned and unacceptable under any pretext.”
