Cross-country equestrian event kicks off in Wadi Rum

AMMAN — The Jordan edition of Gallops, a unique international event for horses from all over the world, recently kicked off in Wadi Rum, according to a statement from organizers.اضافة اعلان

Jockeys from Jordan, led by HRH Princess Jalila, joined riders from all over the world and will include five stages, reaching a distance of 200km through the middle of Wadi Rum. Riders will be tracked via GPS, until arriving in Petra on the October 29.

The launch witnessed the participation of approximately 130 jockeys and riders, between the ages of 15 and 70 years old, with as many women participating as men. The jockeys include those specialized in trips, jumping, dressage, and polo. 

The Gallops race has previously been held in Oman, Morocco, and India. It is being held this year in Wadi Rum under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and with the support of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Wadi Rum region, the Petra Commission, the Heritage Revival Company, Zain, Ghadeer Mineral Water Company/Nestle Waters Jordan, and Alpha.

Participants include Camille Cerf, (miss France 2015), and Ernes Mittenaere, (miss Universe 2016), as well as Belgian jockey Emeline Parmentier, who became known internationally after returning to riding after a car accident forced the amputation of her.
