AMMAN — The 11th edition of the Jordan International Film Festival kicked off Sunday evening at the main theater of the Royal Cultural Center in the capital, Amman. The event was held under the patronage of Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh, in the presence of a large gathering of artists, guests, and media representatives.

The opening ceremony honored director and film critic Adnan Madanat as the festival's personality of the year. Honorary festival awards were also presented to artists Mohammad Al-Abbadi and Abdulkarim Al-Qawasmi, alongside directors Salah Abu Hanoud and Ahmad Da'ibes, in recognition of their artistic careers and lasting contributions.
In a speech delivered in the presence of Ministry Secretary-General Dr. Nidal Al-Ahmad and President of the Jordanian Artists Association Dr. Hani Al-Jarrah, Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh highlighted the festival's aesthetic and intellectual significance in reinforcing visual storytelling. He emphasized the film industry's intersection with the "Jordanian Narrative" program launched from Tafileh Governorate by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to strengthen national identity and document the country's historical and social heritage.
The festival, directed by Director of the Theater and Arts Directorate Is'haq Yaseen, will run for 5 days. Its lineup features 8 films competing in the official competition, selected from a total of 2,099 submissions from around the world.
The cinematic event also showcases 6 films produced by the Ministry of Culture, along with 6 films created by Jordanian university students in support of emerging young talent.
Hosted by artists Mohammad Al-Majali and Sandra Qawar, the opening ceremony featured a promotional screening of the participating works, as well as a musical performance by artists Mohammad Khalil, Natalie Sam'an, and Yazan Al-Sabbagh, accompanied by the Jordanian Artists Association Musical Ensemble.
