U.S. President Donald Trump announced that “the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be extended for an additional three weeks,” in a move that U.S. Vice President JD Vance described as “a major historic moment for the world.”
Trump considered that “the peace file in Lebanon is relatively easy compared to other files we are currently working on,” calling on Iran to stop funding Hezbollah.
He added that Washington is looking forward to hosting both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun soon, confirming that the United States will directly support Lebanon.
Vance said that “the direct meeting between the leaders of Israel and Lebanon in the Oval Office happened for the first time thanks to Trump’s efforts.”
For his part, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that “the extension provides an opportunity to work toward lasting peace between Israel and Lebanon.”
