A Palestinian fisherman was martyred on Sunday morning after Israeli forces opened fire on a fishing boat off the coast of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, according to Palestinian sources.
The sources said Israeli naval vessels fired machine guns at a fishing boat operating in the waters of Deir al-Balah, resulting in the martyrdom of fisherman Mohammed Mousa Abu Jiab.
Palestinian reports state that Israeli naval forces have repeatedly targeted fishermen in Gaza’s coastal waters through gunfire, shelling, and tear gas, leading to the martyrdom and injury of a number of fishermen, in addition to the destruction and seizure of fishing boats.
Since October 7, 2023, fishing activities across much of the Gaza Strip have become nearly impossible due to military restrictions and ongoing attacks, depriving thousands of fishermen and their families of their primary source of livelihood.
