Tobacco companies raised prices without consulting gov’t — minister

AMMAN — Minister of Industry and Trade Yousef Al-Shamali said that tobacco companies have raised prices without consulting the government, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.اضافة اعلان

During a meeting with the commercial sector in Al-Mafraq governorate, the minister added, "We will study the production costs of the tobacco sector, and we have legal tools if it turns out that they have not increased."

No new taxes
Earlier, the Income and Sales Tax Department confirmed that no new taxes would be imposed on any commodity or service, including tobacco.

The department stated that, in compliance with the government's policy of not raising taxes and financial burdens on citizens, there is no basis for the rumors about raising the tax on tobacco.
