Amman — His Majesty King Abdullah II will open the third ordinary session of the 20th Parliament today, delivering the Throne Speech before both houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives. The session begins with the election of a new House Speaker and the members of the Permanent Bureau, and faces a legislative agenda led by the Social Security, Labor, and Execution Laws, as well as the 2027 General Budget Bill.اضافة اعلان

MP Ibrahim Al-Tarawneh is running for the speakership, backed by the understanding reached among the four blocs: Al-Mithaq, Mubadara, Azm, the centrist parties, and Al-Islah, which agreed to nominate him as speaker, with Ahmad Al-Hmeisat as first deputy and Ibrahim Al-Habour as second deputy.
However, the understanding has not ended the competition, as MPs Mojahem Al-Saqour and Suleiman Al-Zebn insist on running, leaving the final outcome in the hands of the deputies under the dome, while the Ummah bloc remained outside the four-way understanding.

The session's agenda is led by amendments to the Social Security Law, amid debates over retirement age, contributions, early retirement, and acquired rights, alongside the amended Labor Law currently with the Senate, and the Execution Law draft.

Discussion of the 2027 budget is also a major milestone, given the debates it entails over spending, the deficit, public debt, and economic priorities.
These files place the council before a legislative and oversight test, with the challenge lying in turning parliamentary understandings into institutional performance capable of reviewing legislation and holding the government accountable.
