In February 2025, the Government of Japan extended a grant of one hundred twenty-two thousand eight hundred and eighty-one US dollars (US$122,881) to Greater Karak Municipality for the provision of waste collection trucks under the scheme called Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

This grant is aimed at addressing the challenge of waste collection in Karak City due to its growing population of 130,600, including Syrian refugees. The two waste collection trucks funded by this grant assistance will enhance the Municipality’s waste collection capacity, ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for Karak’s residents.

In the speech delivered during the handover ceremony, Ambassador ASARI Hideki stated, “I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Greater Karak Municipality and all stakeholders who contributed to the successful implementation of this project. Japan supported this initiative in line with its development policy and remains committed to supporting local communities through projects that promote human security”.

In turn, Mr. Mohammad Manaseer expressed his pride in the partnership between the Municipality and the Embassy of Japan, highlighting the positive impact of the grant. He expressed strong gratitude to the Embassy of Japan and stated, “(this grant) comes in response to genuine needs expressed by the local community and serves as a tangible example of the impact of international partnerships in supporting sustainable local development… We, at Greater Karak Municipality, affirm our commitment to using these mechanisms with high efficiency and ensuring the sustainability of this project's impact, in a way that serves the interests of the citizens and preserves our local environment”.

Since 1993, under the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects, Japan has extended more than 10.50 million US Dollars for 160 projects[KH1]  across Jordan, supporting non-profit organizations, schools, hospitals, and local governments.
