Under the decision—based on a recommendation from the Services, Infrastructure, and Social Affairs Committee and a nomination by the Board of Directors of the Jordan Valley Authority—the amended guidelines are to be read in conjunction with the 2016 guidelines for the allocation and use of water resources outside the agricultural project (surface and groundwater) in the Jordan Valley, as a single set of rules. They shall take effect as of the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
The amended guidelines stipulate a revision to Paragraph (a) of Article 7 of the original guidelines by adding a new purpose for water use, namely agro-industrial activities. Water tariffs allocated for this purpose will be determined in accordance with the approved schedules.
The decision comes as part of efforts to regulate the use of water resources outside the agricultural project in the Jordan Valley and to enhance sound water management, in line with the requirements of sustainable development and addressing water-related challenges in the Kingdom.
