The new blockbuster movie “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (“Spider-Man: through the Spider-Verse”) has been abruptly pulled from movie theaters in more than a dozen Muslim-majority countries without explanation. However, it is speculated that the cancelation is apparently due to the inclusion of a poster with the trans flag, which briefly appears in the background of a room.اضافة اعلان

According to Archyde, the film was released on June 1 in countries including India. The film received a great reception. The film has earned $417 million at the box office so far. It is reported that the film could not pass the censor standards in the Middle East.

According to Saudi Cinemas, which is under the General Commission for Audiovisual Media, Spider-Man will not be released in some parts of the Gulf region as it ‘contradicts the content regulations in force’.

The reason for the ban has not been officially released. But it is reported that some things in favor of the transgender community led to the ban.

In the film, Gwen Stacy’s teenage experiences in the galaxy with Spider-Woman also give some clues as to who she is. In one scene, a transgender flag hangs on the wall of Gwen’s room.

It even has the words “Protect Trans Kids” written on it.

In a similar incident, Disney’s “Lightyear” was banned in 13 Muslim-majority countries last year for featuring a lesbian kiss scene.

“Into the Spider-Verse”, the prequel to “Across the Spider-Verse”, had a successful season in the region when it premiered in 2018. Children in Lebanon carry backpacks with Miles Morales, the main character of the franchise and the first black Spider-Man, while malls in the UAE sell action figures of the superheroes from the film.

“Across the Spider-Verse” is the second part of a trilogy that will conclude with a third installment scheduled to hit theaters next year.
