A spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate stated that some individuals are attempting to spread misleading information and justify the recent shooting incident involving civilians and police officers by claiming there had been a long history of assaults and complaints between the shooter and his neighbors. The spokesperson stressed that these claims are false, according to the investigation, witness testimonies, and statements from those involved in the dispute, including the shooter’s son.
The spokesperson explained that a disagreement had occurred between the parties the day before the incident as a result of a neighborhood dispute and was resolved without any formal complaints being filed. The disagreement resurfaced the following day and escalated into a confrontation, during which the individual opened fire indiscriminately at civilians, including the deceased victim.
According to the statement, the victim who died as a result of the shooting was not involved in the altercation and had merely been attempting to defuse the situation.
The Public Security Directorate emphasized that all reports suggesting previous disputes or repeated intimidation of the shooter and his sons are inaccurate. It reiterated that the conflict was solely a neighborhood-related disagreement and that no prior history of ongoing disputes or harassment existed.
The spokesperson urged the public not to be misled by rumors or unsubstantiated accusations directed at any party without evidence, warning that such actions contribute to the spread of misinformation and the distortion of public understanding.
The Directorate also called on citizens to obtain information from official sources, noting that it has issued several statements explaining the circumstances of the incident and has disclosed all details that can be released without compromising the investigation.
The spokesperson added that the Cybercrime Unit is monitoring and tracking individuals who attempt to mislead public opinion, distort facts, or make unfounded accusations against injured persons and the deceased who were not connected to the allegations being circulated. He confirmed that the case will be referred to the judiciary today.
