Speaking during a Cabinet session held Sunday in Irbid—with the participation of representatives of local bodies and community stakeholders—Hassan said that work on development programs and projects is progressing as planned, with additional initiatives introduced following consultations with members of parliament from the governorate.
He stressed that Irbid possesses significant economic potential across key sectors including industry, information technology, agriculture, and tourism, noting that development and investment opportunities in the governorate are substantial and require continued collaboration with elected bodies and local stakeholders.
On the health sector, the Prime Minister highlighted notable progress, particularly the opening of the new Princess Basma Hospital. He said the government is working to establish a cancer treatment center at the hospital, similar to the Samih Darwazeh Center at Al Bashir Hospital, in addition to connecting the hospital to the ring road and rehabilitating the old facility into advanced outpatient clinics to improve services for citizens.
Hassan also confirmed that the government is moving forward with the Irbid ring road project through investment to ensure sustainability and enhance its economic and service impact.
In education, he noted that Irbid will witness the construction of 17 new model schools over the coming years at a cost of approximately 60 million dinars—nine of which will be funded through the social responsibility project, with the remainder financed through the state budget. He pointed to the inauguration of Maru Secondary School for Girls as a model for future schools across the Kingdom.
Regarding tourism, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Umm Qais site is among the most important tourist attractions in Jordan, particularly for domestic tourism, as it supports small-scale facilities that benefit local communities. He added that the government is working to promote domestic tourism through legislative and regulatory improvements.
On regional challenges, Hassan reiterated that the government is striving to maintain normal economic activity and preserve recent positive indicators, including growth rates of around 3%, while aiming for further improvement.
He highlighted ongoing major strategic projects such as the Aqaba Port railway, the National Water Carrier project, and the Risha gas pipeline, alongside various energy initiatives and development projects including the international stadium, exhibition center, and the Amra City entertainment project.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that these projects will help stimulate multiple sectors and benefit all governorates, noting that next year will see an unprecedented injection of $9 billion into the Jordanian economy.
He concluded by emphasizing that the government is pursuing policies to strengthen the resilience of the national economy, mitigate inflationary pressures, and expand opportunities for growth despite ongoing regional challenges.
