Minister of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Badour, emphasized that mental health and addiction treatment have become national priorities in Jordan. This stems from the state's growing realization that mental health is a fundamental pillar of public health, social stability, and sustainable development.

These remarks followed a tour of the National Center for Rehabilitation of Addicts in the Shafa Badran area of the capital on Thursday. The Minister was accompanied by Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
National Framework for Mental Health
According to a Ministry of Health statement, Al-Badour explained that the Ministry has adopted a comprehensive national framework focusing on:
Prevention and expansion of therapeutic services.
Integrating medical, psychological, and social care into a unified system.
Enhancing community-based services, noting that 73 mental health clinics are currently operational across the Kingdom to improve accessibility and ensure equity in care.
Key Achievements in Addiction Treatment
The Minister highlighted the establishment of a new inpatient addiction treatment facility supported by the WHO. He noted that the National Center for Mental Health provides short-term residency and outpatient services, including:
Medical detoxification.
Psychological support.
Social counseling.
Al-Badour reaffirmed Jordan's commitment to investing in mental health as a foundation for societal security and progress, aligned with global best practices through international partnerships.

The delegation was briefed by the Center’s Director, Dr. Ahmed Al-Hunaiti, on operational mechanisms and accredited rehabilitation programs. They also listened to the personal journeys of several beneficiaries, highlighting their stories of recovery and successful reintegration into society.
