Minister of Public Works and Housing, Engineer Maher Abu Al-Saman, conducted a field tour today covering several sites in Karak Governorate that were affected by flooding over the past two weeks, in order to assess the extent of the damage on the ground and review the urgent safety measures underway.اضافة اعلان

During the tour, the minister inspected the Al-Thira’a culvert on the Karak–Jordan Valley (Al-Kharza) road, where he received a detailed briefing from specialists on what occurred, its causes, and the efforts made since the first hours of the incident.
Ministry teams explained that they immediately inspected the site and assessed its actual condition, and— in coordination with relevant authorities— implemented a partial and precautionary closure of the road to ensure public safety. Additional traffic-safety measures were provided, including concrete barriers, reflectors, floodlights, and lighting to alert road users.

Technical teams noted that an urgent study was completed to determine the required works according to engineering specifications, and coordination has been made with the contractor to begin implementation. Currently, earth-support works and extensions to the existing box culvert are underway, based on approved designs, to enhance its capacity to drain rainwater and prevent future damage.

Abu Al-Saman also inspected the Al-Sammar culvert, where Public Works crews are reinforcing road edges and shoulders using selected materials to ensure safe traffic movement. The teams are also clearing valley streams and reservoir channels in the area to maintain continuous water flow during the rainy season and to prevent water accumulation that could endanger infrastructure or residents.

The minister stressed during the tour that the ministry has been “operating at maximum capacity since the onset of the weather system to address its impacts and respond immediately to all reports,” noting that comprehensive treatment of damaged sites is one of the ministry’s top priorities.
He added: “We are working according to well-designed engineering plans that ensure infrastructure sustainability and strengthen its ability to adapt to changing climate conditions.”

He stated that field teams “continue to work around the clock, especially in areas witnessing water accumulation or diversion in drainage paths,” directing that work be expedited at the Al-Thira’a and Al-Sammar sites, and emphasizing the importance of continuous coordination with municipalities and relevant authorities to ensure unified and effective efforts.

Abu Al-Saman underscored that the ministry places the safety of citizens and road users as its “highest priority,” affirming that all ongoing projects adhere to the highest technical and engineering standards, and that monitoring teams will continue field follow-ups to ensure the works are completed within the scheduled timelines.
