Kingdom receives 65% of its long-term rainfall average so far

AMMAN — The Kingdom’s 14 main dams now hold 28.3 per cent, or 79 million cubic meters (mcm), of their total storage capacity of 336 mcm, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation said on Saturday, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. Also, 65.2 per cent, or 5.343 billion cubic meters, of the Kingdom’s long-term rainfall average of 8.1 billion cubic meters have been recorded since the start of the 2021-2022 wet season. Despite historically scarce precipitation, the southern Red Sea port of Aqaba has seen its annual average at 183.8 per cent since the beginning of the season.
