AMMAN – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, called for comprehensive Arab cooperation on Monday to make the Arab world a major source of green energy production in all its forms, covering its needs and exporting the surplus to consumer countries to achieve their environmental sustainability goals and diversify energy sources.اضافة اعلان

According to Al-Mamlaka TV, during his opening speech at the 12th Arab Energy Conference, titled "Arab Countries' Efforts to Address Energy Security Challenges," Kharabsheh emphasized that this requires collective action by Arab countries to localize industries related to clean energy projects, develop these industries across supply chains, enhance innovation and technology, and attract investments in this field.

He highlighted the importance of developing green electricity generation projects, energy storage, hydrogen production, and other related industries, promoting Arab integration in manufacturing, operation, production, and exchange, leading to increased stability and prosperity for Arab peoples and the region.

Abundant energy sources in the Arab world
Kharabsheh highlighted the abundant energy sources in the Arab world, including fossil fuels and all forms of renewable energy (solar, wind, and hydro).

Acknowledging the strategic geographic location of Arab countries connecting Asia to Africa and Europe, Kharabsheh emphasized the potential for the Arab world to become a major center for the transportation of green energy and green hydrogen pipelines, leveraging its strategic ports for future green energy exports.

Jordan's energy sector
The Minister reviewed Jordan's experience in the energy sector, citing challenges faced due to heavy reliance on energy imports and the lack of source diversification. He highlighted strategic goals focusing on energy security, sustainable sources, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Kharabsheh emphasized the importance of legislation, regulation, and leveraging renewable energy resources.

He pointed out Jordan's achievements in renewable energy, becoming a major attraction for regional and international companies investing in renewable energy projects. The country currently has approximately 2600 megawatts of renewable energy systems connected to the electrical grids, producing around 27 percent of the total electricity in 2022. Jordan aims to cover over 30 percent of its electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2030, according to the updated energy sector strategy.

Kharabsheh concluded by stating that Jordan is aligning with global energy transition trends, developing policies, and regulatory frameworks to attract investments in green hydrogen production, positioning Jordan as a regional hub for exporting hydrogen, ammonia, and green methanol. He acknowledged the signing of memoranda of understanding with international companies interested in conducting necessary studies for these projects.
