Jordan to witness below-average rainfall this autumn

AMMAN — According to the Jordan Meteorological Department, all indicators point to 30 percent less rainfall this autumn than the normal range, Al-Saa News reported. The department said that last year, Jordan witnessed a normal amount of precipitation in the central regions of Amman, Balqaa, and Zarqa, while in the southern regions, rainfall was below the normal rate. Director-General of the Jordan Farmers Union Mohammad Al-Oran said that prior to 2019, rainfall rates were “good”, but since then, precipitations have been lower than normal. The sharp rise in temperatures has had a significant impact on sustainable development, and soil and water, which, in turn, has affected agriculture and livestock production, he said. Oran called for activating land use systems and drafting a comprehensive plan for agricultural and livestock production in response to climate change.
