AMMAN — Jerash Mayor Ahmad Al-Autom announced on
Wednesday a plan to launch an integrated tourism project in the governorate,
Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
The project will be run jointly by a number of community
institutions represented by Fayhaa Jerash community organization and the Jerash
Ladies Benevolent Society, Jerash Chamber of Commerce and the Jerash Greater
Municipality.
Three buildings within the old market will be integrated
into a heritage tourist hub, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Tourism and
Antiquities.
Autom said that the project includes a presentation of
women's and charities’ products, a presentation of heritage crafts,
embroideries, shelter services (hostels), and a traditional restaurant.
He said the project will be within the “Urdon Jannah”
program, which was launched by the Jordan Tourism Board.
He noted that the project area is about 1,000 square meters
within the old market in the governorate.
The Greater Jerash Municipality signed an agreement with a
charitable association in the governorate to establish a sewing operator for
the production of banners and flags, which will be sold at special prices in
the markets and to provide clothing for the workers in the municipality.
The value of the project is JD50,000, and will provide nearly
10,000 job opportunities.
