Hazardous waste center treats, stores 5,000 tons annually

AMMAN — Minister of Environment Muawiya Al-Radaideh said, Hazardous Waste Treatment Center serves to transport, treat and store an annual amount of 5,000 tons of waste generated in industrial facilities, scientific research centers, universities, schools, and pharmaceutical companies, according to Al Mamlaka.اضافة اعلان

In response to queries by lawmakers, Radaideh said that up to November 2021, the quantities of waste stored in the center amounted to about 25,000 tons, and “large quantities of hazardous waste were treated by using landfill cells to isolate them.”

Radaideh said that “the center has an area of 8,000 dunums, 1,000 dunums of which used, while there is no incinerator.

Radaideh said that “the center was subject to three thefts of lead briquettes amounting to 30 tons, in addition to the theft of a cable used for the artesian well located in the center and a TV screen.”  

He noted that “investigation into these thefts is still ongoing by the judiciary and security authorities.”
