Gov’t proposed new traffic law, introduces 11 new violations

AMMAN — The government has proposed an amended traffic law for the year 2023, which includes about 11 new traffic violations, according to the state minister for legal affairs, Nancy Nimroqa.اضافة اعلان

She said that the proposed law has strengthened penalties for violators and repeat offenders of traffic safety regulations, which pose a risk to road users and public and private properties. Adding that the law also keeps up with various technological advancements, aiming to increase traffic safety and reduce accidents, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Higher Council for Road Safety
The Higher Council For Road Safety was established under the chairmanship of the Minister of Interior. The council is tasked with several duties and authorities, including approving the national traffic safety strategy and its executive plan, coordinating with official and civil bodies concerned with traffic safety, establishing traffic data centers to provide traffic statistics and analysis, and finding solutions and recommending measures to address traffic issues.

It consists of memberships from the Director of Public Security as the deputy chairman, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Interior, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Local Administration, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, the Director-General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, the Mayor of Greater Amman, and two representatives from the private sector appointed by the council's president for a term of two years.

Nimroqa emphasized that the traffic law has not been amended since 2008, making it about 16 years old.
