AMMAN — The legal committee in the House of Representatives will start its first meetings on Sunday to discuss the amended draft of the
traffic law for the year 2023. The Council of Ministers had previously approved
the justifications for amending the traffic law and proceeded with the
necessary procedures for its issuance according to regulations.
The new traffic law aims to enhance traffic safety and
reduce accidents by imposing stricter penalties on violations that directly or
indirectly lead to loss of life. Additionally, it will tighten penalties for
repeat offenders of traffic safety rules, which pose a risk to road users and
public and private properties.
Furthermore, the draft law proposes the formation of a
higher council for traffic safety responsible for setting traffic policies and
unifying various efforts related to traffic and transportation.
The purpose of the draft law is to keep up with the
significant increase in the number of vehicles and drivers, as well as the technological developments that have occurred in vehicle types, specifications,
and equipment. The law will also adopt electronic data for vehicles, drivers,
violations, surveillance, and accident plans.
