High fines in cybercrime bill target those who spread sedition - Safadi

AMMAN — The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Al-Safadi, said in a meeting of the Legal Committee on Sunday, that the high financial penalties contained in the draft law do not target the group keen on the safety and security of society, but those who offend and seek sedition, distortion, extortion and other irresponsible practices.اضافة اعلان

This meeting was a part of the dialogues launched to discuss the bill in the presence of experts and representatives of civil society institutions, Al-Mamlaka News reported.

Safadi said that the House of Representatives is in favor of freedom of opinion and expression, and freedom of the media and press. Noting that the Council accepts other opinions and constructive criticism that leads to achieving public interest, while simultaneously stressing the need to stand by tightening punishment and fines against offenders and practitioners of extortion, targeting society and its safety.
