His remarks came following the inauguration of the Integrated Border Management Operations Room, the passenger terminal, and several rehabilitation projects at the Al-Karama–Trebil border crossing in Mafraq Governorate. He stressed that “attention to borders is not a cultural luxury.”

Faraya explained that the government has allocated 5 million dinars this year for the development of border centers, with plans to increase the amount next year, in addition to external support to strengthen these centers given their importance in security, and in combating drugs, weapons, and other threats.

He added that the government has a comprehensive plan that includes building new centers and maintaining infrastructure at existing ones, within a coordinated financing framework.

The minister pointed out that the opening of the Al-Karama border facilities included new arrival and departure halls, a baggage inspection building, a health center, and a customs center. He expressed hope that these projects will facilitate passenger movement, reduce waiting times inside the center, and ease trade with Iraq.
