This observatory is poised to provide critical analytical information, situational reports, forecasts, and alerts concerning key indicators such as food security, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Minister Hanifat emphasized that this decision aligns with the conference's overarching goals, which primarily revolve around accelerating the transition toward efficient agricultural food systems capable of withstanding climate change. The initiative for establishing the regional food security observatory was proposed by the FAO Regional Office, indicating significant international collaboration.

The observatory will serve as a dynamic platform offering insights into various indicators, including food security, nutrition, production, consumption, trade, stocks, and sustainability. Policymakers and strategists across the region will have access to this platform to redefine policies and strategies related to food security based on a comprehensive understanding of international dynamics.

This initiative underscores a broader effort within the conference to foster regional agreements and collaborative endeavors to achieve sustainable agricultural food systems and ensure food security for millions of people in the area. FAO representative Nabil Assaf highlighted the importance of this gathering, which aims to outline achievements in the sector, chart a roadmap for the next decade, and address urgent matters for the upcoming two years.

One of the core issues discussed during the conference is the need for more flexible, efficient, and comprehensive food systems to address growing challenges such as water scarcity, conflicts, and increased demand for high-quality food items. Regional integration emerges as a critical theme, focusing on reducing reliance on distant imports and enhancing regional information exchange and expertise to build more resilient food systems.

The conference agenda is packed with discussions on various critical topics, including sustainable rural transformation, market sustainability, climate-resilient agricultural food systems, and initiatives to address regional crises. Additionally, the conference will highlight science, innovation, and digitization as key drivers for transforming agricultural food systems, with a particular focus on vulnerable regions such as Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and landlocked developing countries (LLDCs).

As the conference progresses, it will feature the review of pioneering initiatives by the FAO and the Hand in Hand Investment Forum, further cementing the commitment to addressing regional food security challenges. The conference is slated to conclude by adopting a ministerial declaration, approving the regional conference report, and determining the date and location for the 38th session of the Regional Conference for the Near East.
