Cyber Security: Iranian Breach of Silos Company Caused by Weak Password
The President of the National Center for Cyber Security (NCSC), Mohammad Al-Smadi, revealed that the center detected an attempt by an Iranian cyber-attack group last Monday to infiltrate the systems of the General Silos and Warehousing Company in Irbid. The attack aimed to manipulate the company's operational systems, including temperature controls, scales, and backup power systems.اضافة اعلان

In televised statements to Al-Mamlaka on Thursday, Al-Smadi stated that the breach occurred due to the exploitation of a weak password used by one of the system's users at the company. The hackers managed to access all parts of the General Silos Company’s network before being halted by the NCSC.

Al-Smadi confirmed that the NCSC successfully contained the Iranian breach of the company's network after the hacker reached the power system but before they could access other critical systems. He emphasized that the center's rapid monitoring and response prevented a major Iranian breach that could have led to disastrous consequences for the safety of the national wheat strategic reserve.

Furthermore, he stressed the necessity for all public and private institutions to follow the highest levels of cyber security precautions, adhering to all security policies and controls issued by the center, and to report any incidents immediately.

Al-Smadi explained that the speed of response was the primary factor in thwarting this attempt. He also noted that the NCSC formed a crisis cell with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, which has successfully foiled numerous cyber operations targeting Jordan's cyberspace.

He concluded by clarifying that the goal of the Iranian breach of the General Silos Company network was to manipulate temperature control systems and negatively impact the strategic stock of wheat.
