British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said in Kyiv on Monday that the United Kingdom would continue providing defense assistance to Ukraine despite what he described as Russian “threats.”

Speaking at a ceremony marking Ukraine’s Independence Day ahead of a meeting of international supporters of Kyiv, Burnham said: “Despite the disgraceful Russian threats against my country, we will continue our support for Ukraine’s defense.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, addressing foreign leaders gathered in Kyiv to mark the country’s Independence Day, said Ukraine wanted peace but would not surrender to Russia at any cost.
Burnham and European Council President António Costa were among the prominent foreign figures attending celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union.
