200,000 referrals to psychiatric clinics in 2021

AMMAN — Nearly 200,000 people visited the Ministry of Health’s psychiatric clinic last year, a ministry official said, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

Nael Al-Adwan, director of the ministry’s Health Insurance Department, said the government plans to "develop mental health services".

He said that "52 psychiatric clinics of the ministry are spread in the Kingdom", and a further 55 psychiatric clinics in the private sector, the majority of which are based in Amman.

Adwan pointed out that 25 percent of “any society suffers a mental disorder at some stage in its life.” He said that "there is no psychiatric clinic inside the Kingdom that gives an appointment that exceeds a week".
