Dr. Yelena Solomatina, a nutrition expert, points out that dried fruits—such as apricots, raisins, and prunes—contain important compounds that are particularly beneficial for the health of older adults.اضافة اعلان

According to her, it is especially helpful for the elderly to consume raisins made from dark grapes used in winemaking, as they contain less sugar than other types.

She explains, “Grapes contain resveratrol, a compound that positively affects blood vessels. It also stimulates certain substances that support the vitality of cells.”

As for dried apricots, they are rich in beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A, which is essential for vision in dim light. Beta-carotene also strengthens the immune system and aids in the regeneration of mucous membranes—something that becomes increasingly important with age, as the body’s ability to renew these membranes declines, making it easier for viruses to penetrate.

In addition, elderly individuals should include dried prunes in their diet, as they help improve intestinal motility (peristalsis), which tends to weaken with age.

“Prunes help detoxify the body and reduce the risk of cancer,” she says. “They also contain anthocyanins, which protect the body from aging.”

Dr. Solomatina recommends that seniors eat two pieces of dried fruit per day and consume raisins in small amounts. However, individuals with diabetes should avoid these fruits due to their high sugar content.
