Despite these advancements, batteries naturally degrade over time, and charging your phone multiple times a day has become common—especially with numerous background processes running constantly.
Experts explain that poor battery performance usually stems from two main causes. The first is simple aging. This can be confirmed by checking battery health, as manufacturers typically recommend replacement once capacity drops below 80%.
The second cause is rapid battery drain despite the battery being in good condition. This is often linked to heavy usage or apps running in the background.
In this context, SlashGear highlighted five essential settings Android users can enable to extend battery life:
Turn Off Always-On Display
The Always-on Display feature allows users to check the time and notifications without fully waking the screen. However, it still consumes power—especially if it’s not truly needed.
To disable it:
Settings > Display > Always-on Display
(On some devices, it may appear under “Ambient Display” or lock screen options.)
It’s also recommended to lower the screen refresh rate to 60Hz to conserve battery, keeping in mind that animations may appear slightly less smooth.
Switch to Dark Mode
Dark Mode changes interface elements to darker or black tones. On AMOLED screens, black pixels are effectively turned off, reducing energy consumption and improving battery life.
Additionally, Dark Mode enhances readability and reduces eye strain.
Enable it via:
Settings > Display > Dark Mode
You can also schedule it to turn on automatically based on time or lighting conditions.
Review Background App Permissions
Apps running in the background can significantly drain battery—especially messaging and navigation apps like WhatsApp and Google Maps.
To restrict background usage:
Settings > Apps > See all apps > [Select app] > Battery > Restrict background usage
You can also adjust location permissions so they activate only while the app is in use.
Switch from 5G to 4G
While 5G delivers speeds up to ten times faster than 4G, it consumes more battery and may have weaker coverage in some areas.
For most users, 4G is more than sufficient for 4K streaming, gaming, and downloading large files.
To switch:
Settings > Network & Internet > SIM cards > Preferred network type > 4G/LTE
You can also briefly toggle Airplane Mode on and off to refresh network connections.
Adjust Additional Battery-Saving Settings
Remove unnecessary battery-saving apps, as Android already optimizes resource usage automatically.
Disable sync for non-essential accounts via:
Settings > Passwords & Accounts
Turn off unused connectivity features such as mobile data, location services, or Bluetooth from the Quick Settings panel.
