The contract for the Al-Muwaqqar Industrial City natural gas supply project was signed by Bakynam Kafafi, CEO of TAQA Arabia Group. The contract for supplying natural gas to Al-Rawda Industrial City in the Ma’an Development Zone was signed by Waleed Lotfy, chairman of Petrojet and the authorized signatory for the consortium.
During the signing ceremony, Al-Kharabsheh thanked the United Arab Emirates for its continued support.
“Today, we are signing two agreements to deliver natural gas to Al-Rawda Industrial City in the Ma’an Development Zone and Al-Muwaqqar Industrial City, with generous support from the UAE through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, worth $70 million,” he said.
Al-Kharabsheh said the projects form part of Jordan’s strategy to reduce energy costs across economic sectors, particularly the industrial sector.
He added that the projects would provide an alternative energy source for various sectors, especially industry, helping reduce costs, improve industrial competitiveness and facilitate access to new markets. They are also expected to support production expansion, the establishment of new production lines, job creation and broader economic growth.
Mohammed Al Suwaidi, director-general of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, said the fund’s relationship with Jordan dates back to 1974 and that it has provided the Kingdom with total financial support of AED9.4 billion over the years.
He said projects supported by the fund in Jordan had demonstrated their strategic and vital role in supporting the national economy, reflecting the strength of the strategic relationship between the two countries at various levels.
Al Suwaidi added that the signing of the agreements reaffirms the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development’s commitment to supporting Jordan’s economic development.
The contracts cover two major projects. The first involves supplying natural gas to Al-Muwaqqar Industrial City and was awarded to a consortium comprising Petrojet and Ahmad Yousef Al-Tarawneh & Partners. The second involves supplying natural gas to Al-Rawda Industrial City in the Ma’an Development Zone and was awarded to TAQA Arabia Group.
The projects are being financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development under a memorandum of understanding signed with the Jordanian government, represented by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, to finance a number of development projects in the Kingdom.
The projects are intended to support the objectives of the second executive program of the Economic Modernisation Vision and advance Jordan’s energy infrastructure.
Kafafi, CEO of TAQA Arabia Group, expressed pride in the company’s entry into the Jordanian market, describing it as a promising market with a strategic and vital location.
She said the 14-kilometer gas pipeline to Al-Rawda Industrial City represents a key step in expanding the group’s services to meet the energy needs of the industrial sector and provide reliable solutions.
Kafafi added that the group looks forward to applying its expertise in infrastructure development and contributing to the growth of Jordan’s industrial sector and sustainable economic development.
The two projects are viewed as strategic steps toward strengthening the competitiveness of Jordan’s industrial sector, reducing production costs and providing factories with a sustainable and economical energy source. They are also expected to improve the investment environment, enhance the ability of industrial cities to attract investment and create additional employment opportunities.
