Study: Regular Cashew Consumption Boosts Health in Obese Adolescents

Published in Nutrition Research, the study involved 142 students from Fortaleza, divided into two groups:

The first group consumed 30g of roasted cashews daily along with receiving nutritional guidance.

The second group received only nutritional counseling without consuming nuts.

After 12 weeks, results showed a significant reduction in waist circumference and oxidative stress levels, while the overall weight of participants did not change notably.

Researchers attribute these benefits to cashews’ high content of unsaturated fats, magnesium, and antioxidants, which help reduce visceral fat accumulation and protect cells from damage.

The scientists emphasized that including cashews in adolescents’ diets could serve as a natural, low-cost method to reduce risks of metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases.

Previous studies also indicate that cashew consumption can strengthen immunity, lower LDL cholesterol, enhance protein and fatty acid metabolism, and support heart and vascular health.
